Sophomore midfielder Leigh Swietanski was named offensive MVP and freshman back Victoria Hassett earned the defensive MVP award to lead the Roadunner women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Union County College in the Region XIX East District Women's Soccer title game on Saturday.
The championship was the second straight for Coach Megan Ruttler's squad, which also beat Union CC in the Fall 2019 title match.
Swietanski scored what proved to be the game winner when she tallied a goal early in the second half for a 2-0 RCSJ-Gloucester lead at that time. In the first half, midfielder Sabrina Baer gave the Runners a 1-0 lead with a late score right before the half expired. Swietanski's goal was the second Region game winner for the former West Deptford High standout, who also netted a dramatic overtime goal to win the 2019 crown.
Goalkeeper Allison Gebhart proved solid in the nets once again in contributing to the victory. The win raised the Runners' record to 5-3 overall this spring.
The win gave the Runners' a berth in next week's NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
