Roadrunner Men's Soccer Survives Tough Challenge as Romeo Scores Winning Goal vs. Northampton CC

Behind by a goal thanks to a late first-half score, the Roadrunner Men's Soccer team finally figured out a path on defeating visiting Northampton County College Saturday.

RCSJ, thanks to goals from Charleson Bluebird and Christian Romeo in the second half, survived a strong challenge from NCC on a hot afternoon to win 2-1 and improve their overall record to 4-1-1.

"Give Northampton credit -- they came prepared, and they played a strong game," said Roadrunner Coach Craig Wicken. "We were trying some new formations, but we need more time to get our execution down. We'll get there. In the meantime, we showed some resiliency and survived a tough one today."

The Runners spent most of the first half on the attack offensively, but they simply could penetrate the tough Spartan defense around the goal cage. And at 44 minutes, midfielder Santiago Rivas tapped in a score to give NCC a 1-0 halftime lead.

Following a half-time pep talk by Wicken and his coaching staff, the Runners kept up the relentless pressure in the second half. Bluebird, assisted by Jake Hartman, tied it with his goal at 72 minutes before Romeo scored the go-ahead goal unassisted at the 82:00 mark.

Kevin Wall recorded three saves to notch the win in the goal cage for RCSJ.

Next up for Wicken's team will next host GSAC rival Middlesex College Tuesday, Sept. 16th in a 4 pm kickoff.
