Women's Tennis Region 19 Tournament: Roadrunners Look for Repeat Heading Into Postseason

If you take a look at their overall record this spring, you'll see that the Roadrunner Women's Tennis team has emerged as a regional and possible national power under Head Coach Mary Jewett, who is completing her third season.

This spring the squad finished with an impressive 11-1 dual meet record while winning the Garden State Athletic Conference championship. This trend continues last season' remarkable campaign in which the Runners won the Region 19 title and placed as national runner-up in the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

Top players have included returning All-Americans Emily Hamilton and Jenna Georgette in first doubles matches, with Hamilton (No. 1 singles), Allyson Green (No. 2) and Georgette (No. 3) also turning in commanding performances in singles play.

The fourth, fifth and sixth singles' players -- Annabelle Williams (No. 4), Allison Barker (No. 5), and Rachael Summers (No. 6) all finished the regular season with undefeated records. In addition, Rachel Rush and Mia Garcia have competed well in their individual matches this season.

"Our team has battled so much this year and keeps improving all the time," commented Coach Jewett. "They have settled into a great routine where they focus on having a good time and competing hard. They know what to do when matches get tough, and they never give up. Plus, they are very coachable young women."

The team will compete in the upcoming Region 19 Championship Tournament at Mercer County Park starting Sunday, April 19, with matches also being held on Tuesday, April 21. The Runners are the defending Region champions and will look for a repeat this time around.

"Everyone is excited to compete in the postseason," added Coach Jewett. "This is what we've worked for all spring. We enjoy competing against top players at both the regional and national levels, and we hope this will bring out the best in all of our players, just like last season."

Jewett is incredibly appreciative of Assistant Coach Nick Raddi, whose dedication makes him the heart and soul of the team. "Nick has earned tremendous respect from the young women through his commitment, energy, and support," Coach Jewett commented.
