No one expected this outcome,  but one thing is for certain -- the Roadrunner Women's Tennis team  left little doubt that they were the No. 1 team in the Region 19 Division III championships at Mercer County Park this past weekend.

Entering the Region meet, the Roadrunners were on even par with three competing teams -- Camden County College, Brookdale CC and Ocean CC. By the time, the meet concluded Saturday, May 3, Coach Mary Jewett's team had separated themselves from the pack, winning the Region crown easily over Camden and Brookdale.

The squad rolled through their lineup, sending players to every singles and doubles finals, winning 5 singles and 1 double titles.

"We stressed stroke production and better foot work with the girls so their play would be more consistent," said Jewett. "The girls pushed themselves to make the improvements, and they really grew as a team as they showed in the Regions."

Coach Jewett's Roadrunners captured the program's first Region 19 DIII title since 2015 by winning 5 of 6 singles crowns along with the first doubles championship. They also produced one singles runnerup and two doubles teams runnersup.

Singles champions included Emily Hamilton (first singles), Jenna Georgette (second), Angel Randhawa (fourth), Katelyn Steffans (fifth) and Allison Barker (sixth). Giana DeBlock placed runner-up at third singles. The first doubles team of Hamilton and Georgette emerged as champions while the RCSJ second and third doubles teams finished as runnersup.

Jewett, who completed her second season as head coach, recalled difficult times at the beginning of the season -- and how her team showed resiliency in never giving up the quest toward a regional championshiip. They placed second pverall in the Region in Spring 2024.

"We barely had enough players to fill the roster at the beginning of the season, and it was really hard," said Jewett. "Then we picked up two players from our basketball and volleyball teams, plus 1 or 2 returning players worked harder every day to get better. They never gave up -- and I couldn't be prouder."

The Runners will now compete in the NJCAA Division III National Champuionship Meet for the second straight season under Coach Jewett. The tournament will be held May 10-11 in Chattanooga, TN.
