The No. 3 nationally ranked Roadrunner Women's Soccer team engaged in a battle they expected this past weekend when they finished in a 1-1 tie at No. 7 Ocean County College despite showing plenty of movement on the offensive side of the field.
The Runners showed relentless effort with 33 shots and 12 corners -- but managed just one goal thanks to a tough Vikings' defensive effort.
The Runners grabbed a 1-0 lead at 28 minutes when Ava Delaney scored a goal with an assist from Riley Cogan. But to avail as the game moved forward, the Runners continued their relentless pressure on Ocean CC goalkeeper Kaia Buckley, who shut the door in recording 18 total saves.
Roadrunner goalkeeper Mackenzie Cignatta played admirably as well, stopping six shots and allowing just an unassisted goal to Angelina DeCesare at the 55:00 mark of the second half that tied the game at 1-1 -- which is where it all ended between the two conference rivals!
"I'm very proud of how our team has played at the start of the season," said Coach Tom Eichhorn. "We've played some real tough competition on the road early on -- and Ocean was no different. It has really helped us emphasize that nothing will be given to us and that we have to earn everything."
The Runners, who now have a 2-1-2 overall record and 1-01 mark in the conference, will continue their road swing this afternoon with a road match at Harcum College in a 3 pm tipoff.
