Two games into the Spring 2021 season, Roadrunner women's soccer coach Megan Ruttler is already seeing promising signs that her club is playing at a high level.
Coach Ruttler's team rolled past Division I power Harcum College 5-0 in the home opener Wednesday, with several players contributing to a solid showing both offensively and defensively.
Sophomore midfielder Leigh Swietanski paced the offense with two goals and two assists while goalkeeper Ali Gebhart earned the shutout with six saves.
Additional goals were scored by Ave Buonpastore, Sabrina Baer and Miranda Uzdavines, who also contributed an assist.
The Runners' defense performed well against a strong Division 1 program in Harcum. The back line of Tori Hassett, Alex Olsen and Nikki Tricocci helped to keep the Harcum offense in check. Gebhart was strong in her first outing of the season.
"We usually have a lot of difficulty whenever we play Harcum, so this was a tremendous effort on everyone's part," said Ruttler. "The back line made a lot of nice adjustments against a very fast opponent, and that made a difference."
Next up for the Runners will be a home match vs. Sussex County on Saturday in a 12 noon start.
