SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Soccer Looks to Continue Proud Winning Tradition

Tradition, pride, and a nationally known program – these traits are all hallmarks of the RCSJ Gloucester women's soccer program that will likely continue right into the Spring 2021 season as the Runners begin action this week under veteran coach Megan Ruttler following a long layoff due to the pandemic.

Following a successful showing in 2019 in which they captured the Region XIX North Atlantic B championship, the Runners not only return a veteran roster, but one loaded with new talent.

Ruttler, who will be assisted by coaches Julie Chini and Maria Grady, will welcome back Region XIX standout veterans such as midfielder/forward Leigh Swietanski, the Region XIX Player of the Year in 2019, and top performers Alyssa Meglino (midfield/forward), Katie Cave (back), Ave Buonpastore (midfield/forward), midfielder Carly Malia, midfielder Alex Olson, and goalkeeper Allison Gebhart.

Meanwhile, a solid group of freshmen recruits are expected to contribute and help the team enjoy a winning season.

The Runners open the Spring 2021 season with a tough opponent in Mercer County Community College on the road Monday.
