Saturday's tri-meet vs. Thaddeus Stevens College and Camden County College in Deptford, NJ offered different paths for Roadrunner wrestlers Haji Saccoh and Max Adelizzi,
The Runners emerged from the tri-meet with a split, picking up a 35-18 win over Thaddeus Stevens before falling to the Cougars, 36-12. And the shorthanded RCSJ squad not only enjoyed marginal success against two solid opponents, but Saccoh and Adelizzi turned in two of the season's most memorable performances.
Saccoh earned two wins on the afternoon at 125 pounds, including an impressive 9-8 decision over Camden CC wrestler Chris Kulb, whom he lost to just a week ago in the Bob Quade Cyclone Open at Centenerary University. Saccoh quickly fell behind to Kulb by an 8-3 count but rallied with a pair of late takedowns to secure the win.
"The difference today was I was keeping more pressure on him, so I wasn't being taken down as much," said Saccoh, who dropped a 16-1 decision to Kulb just last week. "I've been trying to make adjustments like that when I need to,, and it worked today."
Meanwhile, AdelizzI who tore a labrum early last week and was expected to be on the sidelines, instead was cleared to wrestle with a brace. He made the most of the opportunity by recording a pin against his Camden CC opponent in the 184-pound match.
"I'm glad I could find a way to fight through this injury," said Adelizzi, a former Middle Township High standout. "Hopefully I'll be able to keep moving forward."
In the the opening bout, Saccoh, Kaiem Uthman, and Jordan Payne all posted individual wins to spark the 35-18 victory over Thaddeus Stevens College.
Next up for the Runners will be a dual meet January 9th at Sussex CCC followed by additional meets in prepping for the GSAC Championships. Watch for more details.
