NJCAA Division III World Series: Walterson's Blast Lifts No. 2 Roadrunners past No. 7 Central Lakes

NJCAA Division III World Series: Walterson's Blast Lifts No. 2 Roadrunners past No. 7 Central Lakes

Freshman Sienna Walterson delivered the big blow -- and now her Roadrunner teammates are advancing in the NJCAA Division III World Series!

Sienna stepped up to the plate in the fifth inning during a late RCSJ surge and promptly sent a towering three-run homer over the center field fence. That clutch home run, which gave her tea, a 5-0 lead, sealed a decisive 6-2 victory for the No. 2 seed Roadrunners over No. 7 Central Lakes (MN).

Now the Runners advance in the winners' bracket competition. They will now play No. 3 seed Patrick & Henry in the next round, tentatively in a 1 pm start on Thursday at Carrier Park outside of Syracuse, NY.

"Luckily I had a clean look at it, and I was able to get everything into my swing,: said Sienna afterwards. "It was so exciting to contribute a big hit like this!"

Coach Steve DePasquale's club improved to 34-10 overall and are carrying momentum into their semifinal match vs. a talented Patrick & Henry squad.

"We had some tough conditions with the rain today, but our players stuck it out and never gave up," said DePasquale. "The players are gaining a lot of confidence and hopefully we can carry it forward."
