The tone changed quickly -- and the Roadrunners' magical rally in the seventh inning to seal a 5-4 GSAC win over No. 4 nationally ranked Brookdale may have charted a whole new course for the 2025 season.
Down 4-0 against a talented conference and GSAC rival, the Runners rallied for five lightning-fast runs to pull out an improbable triumph.
One final at opportunity faced the RCSJ hitters entering the seventh inning.
The Runners quickly loaded the bases with no one out, setting up Ella Crosbee's clutch two-run triple to make it s 4-2 game.
The momentum had clearly shifted, and moments later Sienna Walterson finished the job with an RBI single to left field to bring home the fifth and final run for the game winner.
All five runs scored with no one out in the inning.
The key triumph came on the heals of a doubleheader loss to Division I Harford CC the day before. Coach Steve DePasquale emphasized how critical it was that his team showed resiliency against a top conference and region opponent.
"Getting those first two runs really set the tone," said DePasquale about the Brookdale win. "Ella's (Crosbee) hit was huge to get us on the board, and we kept up the pressure from there.
"I really believe those losses to a very good Harford team benefitted us. When we started the final inning here against Brookdale, we (the coaches) simply said to the players that they weren't out of this. Just go out and get 5 runs to bring this one home. And they knew they could do it!"
The squad kept the momentum going in Game 2 as Nayelis Sanchez, Grace Huber a Gianna Gonzalez drove in two runs apiece to lead a 7-3 triumph.
The sweep helped the Runners improve to 24-10 overall and 17-3 in the conference as they kept their chances at a GSAC crown alive and well.
Next up will be a home twinbill vs. GSAC rival Ocean County College on Saturday, April 26, starting at 1 pm.
