The men's and women's cross country teams faced their largest crowd of runners in a meet this season at the Osprey Open hosted by Stockton University. The teams faced off against mostly NCAA III competition on a sunny and warm day and had some excellent racing despite missing a few athletes.
The women's team was led once again by Kayla Ayars with a top 100 finish in 88th over the 6k course, and she had the honor of being the top JUCO runner in the race. Following behind were three Roadrunner ladies who pushed each other through to run their fastest times of the season. Gabby Szwed placed 126th in 34:33 with Amelia Helkowski not far behind in 133rd with a 37:06. Georgia Lorenzetti worked hard to round out the Roadrunner flock with a 146th place finish in 43:20 as she worked her way back from an injury..
The men's team was led this week by newcomer Ryne Handley running 30:29 over the 8k course to finish in the top 100 with a 93rd place finish. Sean Gallo was not far behind with his 31:35 and rounding out the flock was newcomer Sebastian Koehn in his debut race in an impressive 32:15 after just a few days of practice.
Next up for both teams is the Jersey Blues Invitational hosted by Brookdale Community College.
