Roadrunner Baseball grabbed the upper hand this weekend in their showdown vs. RCSJ Cumberland for bragging rights as the top NJCAA program in the country.
The Runners, No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III National Rankings, improved to 23-4 on Monday by racing past the No. 2 Dukes 12-2 in the closing game of a crucial three-game NJAC and Region 19 series. Coach Rob Valli's team won the three-game series 2 games to 1, including Saturday's Game 2 triumph at Cumberland.
On Monday, slugger Mitchell Balint collected four hits and four RBIs while teammate Eric Sabato added three hits and three runs scored to spark the easy win. Winning pitcher Matt Shaub struck out 7 and allowed just 1 earned run in 5 1/3 innings.
The Runners belted out 19 hits in the win.
Next up for RCSJ-Gloucester is a home game vs. Bucks County Community College on Tuesday in a 3:30 pm start.
