UPDATE: Epic Unified Sports Game Winning Shot!

Roadrunner nation was abuzz Tuesday night between games of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader when Unified Sports athlete Alex Park connected on a lengthy shot from beyond half court that swished in the basket at the opposite end.

Alex was participating in a Unified Sports basketball game at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) before an amped audience in attendance for a doubleheader against Camden County College. Park's shot not only hit the mark - but it sent the crowd into a wild frenzy!

"Alex shot was the highlight of a great night for all of our Special Olympics athletes and partners," commented RCGC Director of Athletics Brian Rowan. "This program has been great for our campus and students and it was a special moment shared by our entire staff and it was also great to see the reaction of our men's and women's basketball teams who really support our Unified program as well."

Dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences, Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. RCGC hosts Unified Sports year round, with a different sport being played for each season. Soccer is played in the fall, basketball is played in the winter, and kickball is played in the spring. Games are played every Fridayfrom 12 to 1:15pm.
